Curse of perspective
People who are able to see things from multiple perspectives are often conflicted because it’s harder to determine what’s right when you can always see the wrong it could cause. Consequently you’re less decisive, less certain , and you’re always questioning your own opinion. Especially opinions of yourself.
When you can see things from another’s perspective, it’s easier to convince yourself of their truth. Like “Maybe I am just a terrible person”, “maybe they are right, maybe I am just selfish and I never cared”. When someone’s opinion of you is more certain than your opinion of yourself, it may lead you to internalise their judgement because perhaps how they see it, is just…how it is; “maybe I am weird”. Perhaps that the initial way you thought, was just your way of coping. Perhaps it was just self denial of what you clearly are. Or are you? That’s the point. That is how insecurity manifests.
A secure person is often more certain of themselves than anyone else can be of them. That’s how they stay on track with their goal or ideals in the face of adversity. Strong politicians will carry this trait. But I carry the curse of perspective. And I think that’s partially why I dislike politics. Despite the very need of people who can see things from multiple perspectives, this is a world where people are quick to tell you what you are. And if you internalise what others label you in the political world, you won’t achieve anything. It breeds toxicity.
The truth is, no one has the answer. Many are unsure, or are simply trying to learn. Though if politics had more people like me, nothing would change, because I’d know I’d be hurting someone whenever I’m helping another.
“Your judgement won’t make this any less filling (noisy packet of food)“
