Okay I am not calling myself beautiful. But you know how even the most beautiful people can appear ugly if a picture is taken from a bad angle, or a bad time? How much it can shift your perception?. And then from the right angle, they’re the most beautiful person you’ve ever seen? I think it’s kind of the same with thoughts. If you’re exposed to only one angle, your perception of the entire person will be through the lens of that angle. Take the prettiest person in the world and see a list of the worst photos they’ve ever taken and you’d probably find them ugly. Just like thoughts. Everyone kinda has ugly areas of their mind and beautiful areas of their mind. And what you think of them just depends on how exposed you are to whichever part. It’s unfortunate that only few stay long enough to explore someone in their entirety.
I’d also like to think of areas of our mind like areas of the world. There are areas of the world that would make you want to kill yourself, just as there are areas of the world that would make you full of life. And then there are people who desperately want to leave the area of the world they’re in. Suppose they’re living in a country full of war. They know it’s not safe. They know they can’t live a healthy life there. They know it’s full of suffering. But they also know how difficult it is to leave. They may not have the knowledge of the how, or the money, or a support system to help them. There may be others trying to keep them where they are for their own benefit. Just as with our own minds, we may desperately want to escape the dark areas, but have no knowledge of how, or the money for therapy, or a support system to help. We may lose our faith in the ability for change. That this is just how it is. That perhaps this is just where we belong, and it’s how it’ll always be. I am not saying the struggle is the same. But whether you’re carrying a bad mindset in a good environment or a good mindset in a bad environment, struggle is struggle. It’s hard to leave a dark area of your mind, and it’s almost as hard to change someone’s perception once they’ve seen you there. Our brains have only so much processing power to acknowledge the nuance of every other individual. For some will look no further than the country they found you in.
But what someone thinks of us is besides the point.
My wish, my hope, is that everyone is able to travel to the healthy places in the world, the healthy places in their mind, and do the best they can to heal the corrupt places. The places of trauma, the places of lifelessness. I hope for you all to achieve that.
